These are the 4 things I got today but idk if they’re safe for my bellybutton piercing,

1. Epsom salt is a big NO! It’s not salt, at least not sodium chloride, which is what they mean when they say salt or saline. You need salt you can eat.

2. Yep, that’s the saline you need. Warm it up and soak your piercing.

3. Soap with fewer ingredients is better, so choose something with few or no perfumes, dyes, and moisturizers. If you choose to use Dial, use the plain kind, and dilute it before using it. Personally, I think any soap will clean so any soap works, but a gentle soap will be easier on your piercing. Whether you want antibacterial or not is your choice, it depends on how you feel about antibacterials.

4. Nope, not for puncture wounds, which a piercing is. Alcohol is drying and not recommended for cleaning puncture wounds either. Same with hydrogen peroxide. Save all those things for cuts and scrapes, use saline on deep wounds like piercings and animal bites.

My 3 year old son had an ant bite yesterday and today we noticed that the entire top of his foot is swollen really bad. He says it doesn’t hurt and he’s walking on it like normal.

well, he may be allergic to ants, the same thing happens to me when i get bit by an ant…simply apply rubbing alcohol on the bite and let ice sit on it to reduce the swelling. if the swelling doesnt go down w/in a week bring your son to the doctor. you can also get some bite ointment from walgreens or somewhere. i usually just use the rubbing alcohol and bite ointment and it helps extremely. but your son should be just fine…..good luck

My friend and I have recently gotten ahold of some boxing gloves and mouth gaurds. We have begun boxing together and are currently attempting to organize our own fight club. We are trying to recruit fighters, starting with our close friends. We will have everyone begin training, and then setup weight classes. Then eventually, though it is illegal, place bets on our fights and invite spectators to do so as well. We’ll take safety precausions, gloves, mouth gaurds, etc. and will have a first aid kit on hand. Besides, we’re doing it for the excercise, kind of.

First aid can be so many things in this world today. There are so many different cases where there are situations where people were not educated in the way that they could help to prevent harm from happening to themselves and to others. For those people who don’t know first aid assistance is something that is given to a person who may be sick and or injured who needs some kind of medical assistance or attention. The term first aid is a simple term the comes from the idea of helping someone as soon as possible hence the term First Aid. But, the fact of the matter is that First aid is something that has such an important role in how people are able to sustain themselves within the first few minutes of being injured as those first few minutes of a serious accident can be the most challenging as you or the person who is in harm may not know how they are going to get out of the problem that they are in.

Regardless of what your level is in helping people and how secure you are helping others that have some kind of ailment or problem the best thing that you can do is call for assistance from the 911. If you find yourself in a situation where there is a true emergency always call 911 for medical assistance as fast as you can. Also remember that if you are involved in any medical situation that is beyond your abilities to provide any kind of first aid, you should never hesitate to call for emergency medical assistance right away.

Do the best that you can for the most but remember to be aware of your surroundings and educate yourself in what you need to do as this is very important for you to remember as your life and someone else’s life may depend on it.

When dealing with first aid and safety we as adults fail to realize that children are just as susceptible to injuries and accident as much if not more than adults. They usually tend to suffer from these accidents because of their small body frames and the lack of maturity. As a parent and or adult teaching a child first aid techniques can be very important for their growth not only as children but also as human beings.

Teaching your child first aid techniques is not something that is considered to be easy by any means. Before you even began to teach your child things in which they can do to help a friend, parent or family member in harm is sit them down and have a conversation with them. It is important for your children to be educated on the topic at hand, they need to understand that these safety rules are not a game and are not to be played with as they can be the determining factor for someone’s life. Sounds like a lot but as a parent it’s your job to be honest with your child, just put it in within terms that they can understand.

There are so many first aids techniques and concepts that you will want to perform and look into. While doing all of this you will need to know what you are dealing with. You need to know your child and what they can understand as every child is not the same. What you teach your child will depend on the state of mind and how capable they are with understanding and seeing what you are attempting to teach them. While teaching your child you need to realize that you will not be able to rely on your child’s critical thinking as this is something that is not fully formed in them. For the most part children will do what you tell them, as you are their parent so they will listen.

While teaching your child first aid this can be something that may take a few hours as some things may be hard for them to understand and comprehend. Throughout this conversation you will tackle a lot of different concepts and you will need to make sure that you are instructing your child in the proper first aid terms and prevention. Do not move on from one first aid subject to the next as you will want to make sure that your child first understands what you have gone over in details. Depending on how old your child is, some will be able to be taught about the different forms of medication that there is and if they can handle in giving these types of medication to someone when they are need of care.

When teaching your child all of the possible things that they can do in the event of an accident, you have to realize that they might get scared. You have to let them know as their parent that it is okay to be scared as we all get scared but that they need to realize that this is a serious case of someone’s life. You will want to explain to them that there are boundaries that they have and should not overstep in any way. Although first aid is very important for them to know about and have some kind of knowledge on, you should also explain to them that if the situation is too much to handle or they are to scared that it is safer for them to call for help and just talk to the person who is injured until help arrives at the scene.

Children can be taught moves that can save lives by something as simple as applying pressure on a body part that is bleeding and needs to be stopped. They can do all these things but you must remember to tell your children the number one first aid safety rule for themselves and that is that they can only help if they know the person that they intend on helping. You will want your children to understand that they can help if it is needed and they need the person then they can help, but make them aware that there is no need for them to rush to the scene of a bloody site and stop and help a random person, for the fact that while this is noble and great of your child, blood carries many things.

Teach your children to recognize their surroundings and the things that go on around them as this a big part of first aid safety. Teach them to recognize scars and scratches and such that usually mean something different. Let them know never to touch someone who is bleeding blood all over as blood is used to carry diseases in many different shapes and sizes, you can be prepare your child for first aid safety but also prepare them to do the right thing so that they can better themselves in the situation and the person in which they are trying to help.

Make sure that there is nothing blocking the airway, this would include the tongue and any object in your mouth. If the person is not maintaining a healthy breathing rate you will want to go to your kit and find something that will coincide with the situation at hand. A tip for you as the person tending to the victim, you must stay calm for yourself and the person.

You will want to make sure that the victim has a steady pulse and a blood rotation that is good, as you will want to check for any signs of bleeding and make sure that the person you are tending to is okay. You will need to be on you game and be ready as this is a person life that you are tending to you, they are depending on you for the type of support  and you will want to be sure to that are taking this seriously at all times.

A tip for you to remember when dealing with a person who has some kind of physical force done to them is that they can be moved and it is safe in most cases for them to be moved from place to place. Just be careful in how you decide to move the person. Remember to keep the patient lying down and make sure that they are quiet. If he/she is vomiting and there is no sign of neck damage or pain then turn them on their side and stop the choking and keep the warm with any blankets and or covers that are around.

IM looking for free CPR for adult and child w/ first aid. I tried the online sites but they want a fee for the certification. HELP! I cant afford the Fee….

A certified program will always cost somebody something. Some places are lucky enough for the local fire stations or hospitals to offer it- but they generally do not offer a certified version.

You can ask your local Red Cross. Many of them have financial aid programs to help people in situations like yours.

If you are doing this for the state or a job, make sure that you get the right certification. Most of them will not accept on-line certifications.

Ive used a first aid spray before that cools skin that is useful for sprains or bruises, and does not leave any residue on the skin like antiseptic first aid spray. I used it a while ago, it was in a first aid kit by CINTAS, labeled Insta-Cool Cold Spray. Anyone know where I can buy some? Thanks!

Its a waste of money. The only way to help a sprain or strain is with RICE – Rest, Immobilize, Cold (using ice in a thin towel), Elevate. The cool spray is a gimmick.

Traditional Healing

Around 80% of the population in Africa uses traditional medicines according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). There is one traditional healer for every 500 people in Sub-Saharan Africa, but there is only one medical doctor for every 40,000 people. It has been estimated that the whole industry is worth well over R250 million with 70% of the South African population consulting traditional healers.

Traditional Healers’ Council: As a result of new legislation, the Traditional Health Practitioners Bill, an interim National Traditional Healers’ Council was established. The registration and regulation of all types of traditional healers (including inyangas, sangomas, traditional birth attendants and traditional surgeons) will be oversee by this Council.

It is estimated that 200 000 traditional healers will be eligible for registration. Once the new law comes into full effect only registered healers will be allowed to practise medicine. The new law does not allow for traditional healers to diagnose or treat terminal diseases, including HIV and AIDS, and cancer. Traditional healers who are registered will be able to claim fees from the medical aid schemes of their patients. The register is still in the process of being set up and there have been some legal challenges to the new legislation, which has delayed its full enactment.

The Bill states that traditional healers who are not registered and attempt to practise medicine, or claim to be able to treat or cure a terminal disease, will be fined or imprisoned. Traditional Healers’ Organisation: The Traditional Healers Organisation (THO) is the biggest umbrella organisation of traditional healers in South Africa and was established in 1970. It has nearly 70 000 members, 25 000 of whom live and work in South Africa. Membership includes a compulsory one-day workshop on THO activities and a five-day workshop on traditional primary health care. Members also need to produce a good character reference. The provincial offices of the THO are located in Mpumalanga, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal and North West. The national offices is in Johannesburg.

Role of traditional healers in HIV and AIDS: Due to the importance of traditional healers in South African society the government needs to actively involve them in its HIV and AIDS Care, Management and Treatment Plan. This means providing training for traditional healers on the science, prevention, treatment and care of HIV and AIDS. This will be on the understanding that traditional healers are not allowed to diagnose or treat HIV and AIDS using their own methods. They can only support the care and treatment plan endorsed by the government.

Traditional medicines and HIV and AIDS: With many people using traditional medicines to treat the symptoms of HIV and AIDS, lots of claims have been made that some of these traditional medicines can even cure HIV disease. These claims are totally incorrect, as no treatments, including Antiretroviral medicines (ARVs), have been shown to cure HIV and AIDS. There is also evidence that several common traditional medicines do more harm than good.

Once a person has been infected the virus that causes HIV disease stays in a person’s body forever. ARVs work by attacking the virus and stopping it from making lots of copies of itself. A person starts to feel better as the number of viruses in the body is reduced. ARVs do not remove the virus totally from the body; as soon as a person stops taking the medicines the number of the viruses starts to increase again.

Some herbal treatments may help by attacking the virus directly or by stimulating a person’s immune system, which then attacks the infected cells. However there is very little proper scientific research about the safety and effectiveness of these herbal treatments. It is therefore vital to ensure that these medicines are properly researched first to ensure that the safe and effectives ones can be identified and used, and the ones that can harm people are withdrawn.

it feels like something has bitten my arm, it just all of a sudden started aching and now i have tingling in my hand with my arm still aching, me and my sister (we both have senior first aid certificates) had a look but we cant see any bite marks or anything, it only looks like theres a few small scratches but i dont think they have anything to do with it, what should i do?? should i see about goin to the doc or somethin coz we cant see anything with it….any ideas??

A bite suit is an important tool in protection dog training, and is used in most protection dog training programs. When used correctly, the bite suite will assist in protection dog training by helping to develop a dog’s intensity and fighting urges to a more quality level than training with simply a bite sleeve alone. The following paragraphs will discuss some of the ways a bite suit is used in protection dog training programs, and the benefits protection dog training when a bite suit is used.

The best way to begin protection dog training using a bite suit is to work with an experienced trainer. Protection dog training using a bite suit incorrectly can develop undesired behavior and tendencies in the dog being trained. A failure to maintain positive control during protection dog training using a bite suit could very likely result in an unwanted edge in the dog’s demeanor.

When using a bite suit as an aid in protection dog training, there should be a transition period, where the bite suit is introduced from the bite sleeve. During this transition period of protection dog training, the dog must always be on a leash, and the handler must maintain continuous positive control over the dog. Requiring the dog be on a leash during this phase of protection dog training limits his range, and lets the dog reach only the targeted area of training, or the bite zone. The benefits of this type of protection dog training is it teaches the dog exactly where to bite. During this phase of protection dog training, the dog should be encouraged as much as possible by using positive reinforcements, and avoiding negative corrections as much as possible.

With the benefits of using the bite suit during protection dog training being great, there are some things you must realize before protective dog training begins. Protective dog training using a bite suit as a training tool does not correct all protective dog training challenges. The bite suit, when used in protective dog training cannot develop instincts which are not already present in the dog. The bite suit can be used to enhance instincts the dog may already have, and help to produce greater performance, but it should not be considered a cure all tool in difficulties in protection dog training.
