Do you know what to do if you’re burned by direct heat, like from a stove top or a fire? Here’s vital information from dermatologist and author Dr. Doris Day, who explains how to treat minor burns at home, AND how to tell whether you need to get professional help.
Doing laundry is not an option, because everyone needs to have clean clothes to wear. When the clothes get dirty, just toss them into the washer along with some detergent, so the washing machine can clean the clothes. After the washer is finished, put the clothes in the dryer, toss a dryer in to prevent clinging and shut the door. This may sounds pretty simple, but not to those with allergies.
People with allergies may react to the fragrances in the dryer sheets. When they take the clothes out and wear a shirt that was in the dryer with the dryer sheet, they may start scratching their skin a lot throughout they are that the shirt is touching. At first, this may not be realized, but the problem could very well be the dryer sheets used to dry the clothes.

Pets are special and become like family to the owners. Most individuals have at least one pet. Maybe it is a dog, cat, bird, hamster or something cute and furry like a ferret or sugar glider. Whatever the animal is, one thing for sure is there will probably be hair, which means those who have pet allergies will begin to react to this.
There are people who suffer from allergies to the hair on their pet(s). In those areas where the animal sits, lays, eats or abides, there is going to be hair and the flakes or remnants of skin from the pet. This is what the promoting factor is for those who suffer from allergies or hay fever.
As the individuals are near the area where the pet is, they will begin to sneeze. Some people sneeze non-stop and it will not cease, until they have left the area where the pet hair is. They will also have eyes that may swell, burn, itch and water. As it progresses, the symptoms can increase and become worse. The best thing to do is to stay out of those areas where the pet hair. Most people will not let go of their pets because they love their animals. Having a good filter to trap the allergens is a very good idea. However, take the necessary precautions if vacuuming by wearing something to keep from breathing the allergens.
I have to do a First Aid demonstration in Driver’s Ed, and the topic we were assigned is Spinal Cord Injuries. An example of a demonstration he did for the class was for nose bleeds, and he showed us that kicking their foot or whatever will help? What’s something like that that we can do for spinal cord injuries?
Smacking the bottom of the foot for a nosebleed is actually an old-fashioned folk method, bizarre as it sounds, although it has been known to work.
However, a Spinal Cord Injury is nothing to fool around with. Spinal cord injuries are extremely serious and can be fatal if not handled properly.
You should suspect a spinal cord injury if the victim has any sort of outward head injury (the head may have been snapped suddenly in one direction or the other causing spinal injury). A deformity in the victim’s head or neck is also an indication of spinal injury. If the victim’s head and neck appear to be abnormal or resting at an odd-looking angle, damage to the spine should be suspected.
Paralysis in the victim’s arms or legs is a definite symptom of spinal injury. Should the accident victim complain of pain when moving their arms or legs or the experience of tingling, numbness, weakness or a burning sensation in these extremities, possible spinal injury should be assumed.
Another sign of spinal injury is the loss of bladder or bowel control.
*IN ANY AND ALL CASES, IF YOU ARE UNCERTAIN IF THE VICTIM HAS SUFFERED A SPINAL CORD INJURY, ASSUME THEY HAVE UNTIL IT IS PROVEN OTHERWISE*.
.
At the scene of the accident:
1)It is critical that you DON’T move them, so as not to risk further damage to the spinal cord. If you can, immobilize their necks by using a rolled up jacket or blanket.
2)If the victim is conscious, tell them not to move.
3)Call 911 immediately, because emergency treatment is extremely vital in a case like this.
4)You need to maintain the victim’s ability to breathe, keep them from going into shock (cover their bodies with blankets), while at all times refraining from moving them.
If you are CPR certified, monitor the victim’s vital signs using the A BCD first aid method:
A) Make sure the victim’s AIRWAY is open.
B) Monitor their BREATHING.
C) Check the victim’s CIRULATION by monitoring their pulse rate, checking for severe bleeding, and checking the individual’s skin color, temperature and moisture.
D) Check for DISABILITY (mental status and obvious outward injuries, such as those mentioned above).
Emergency workers who arrive on the scene will see to it that the victim’s spine is immobilized as gently yet as quickly as possible, using a rigid neck collar and a rigid back board, which they then use for transport to the hospital.
Good luck with your demonstration.
First Aid Kits and Tips : Stopping a Nose Bleed: First Aid for Minor Injuries
Can qualified first aiders legally instruct basic first aid to others?
I’m a qualified first aider working in a school. I have just been asked by a teacher to instruct a group of 13yr olds in basic first aid. I’ve refused as I suspect you probably have to be a qualified “First Aid Instructor” to teach it. ie if I told the kids the wrong information & they used it on somebody, could it come back to me & I be sued? Does anybody know if this is actually true?
I think they assume I’m being awkward but I’m not a teacher so it’s not my job anyway.
I am also a first aider and i wouldn’t even think about teaching others how to do this. This teacher was so very wrong to ask you to do this. You were tought by an instructor so should the children. Get the school to contact the British red cross or St Johns they will come to the school free and do basic first aid with the children.
How to Survive a Venomous Snake Bite : First Aid if a Child Bitten by a Snake
Does the Bordetella pertussis inhibit adenylyl cyclase?
Hi, I’m currently revising for my USMLE Step 1, and in Lippincott’s Illustrated Biochemistry, it says the pertussis toxin does inhibit, but Clinical Microbiology MRS says the opposite and so does First Aid. I thought Lippincott’s was reliable, they even draw attention to the pertussis toxin inhibiting adenylyl cyclase statement with some sort of underlining. I’m very confused
B. pertussis toxin enhances adenyl cyclase activity due to a portion of the molecule having adenosine diphophate-ribosylating activity. The target of this activity is a plasma membrane G protein that regulates adenyl cyclase activity. ATP ribosylation eliminates adenyl cyclase regulation, resulting in increased respiratory secretions and mucous production seen in the later stages of disease.
Throughout the year, there are a variety of pollens in the air that can have a way of making people feel very sick. Ragweed is one of those pollens and is highly aggravating.
Ragweed usually kicks in high gear anywhere between the summer to fall season and wreaks havoc on the ones who have allergies and hay fever. There are some people who have never had any form of allergies before and will all of a sudden react to the ragweed in the air.
When someone has allergies or hay fever o ragweed and it is beginning to surface its nasty self, that person may end up being very sick with an upper respiratory infection.
The symptoms can be mild or severe, as it depends on each individual person. The allergy sufferer may get itchy skin or hives that pop up, ears that stop up, running and/or sneezing nose with eyes that won’t seem to quit watering, trouble with breathing, asthma and more.
There is medication that should be taken to help with these symptoms, but you should see a doctor for help.
The best times of the year are those times when everyone can go outside and enjoy one another’s company through various activities. Some may go to the movies, want to go camping, do a little shopping or perhaps take the kids to the park for some refreshing relaxation. Or, at least that may be the plan.
The park is filled with a great deal of many trees that are beautiful when fully bloomed, but these trees put out some of the worst allergens around. Take the pine tree for example. Just the simple smell of this tree will be enough to irritate the allergy sufferer with almost instant stuffy and runny noses, itching eyes that will not stop watering, nauseated stomach, burning in the throat, headaches, weakness and fatigue. Texas is notorious for Mountain Cedar and Cedar Elm. Any time there is colder air coming through that state, so is that Mountain Cedar, which makes many people very sick, because they cannot tolerate what comes from these trees.
